The founder of BSB, Dr. rer. nat. Jan-H. Riedel, was born in Hamburg and studied chemistry in Aachen from 1983 to 1989. Following a brief period of research in the USA in 1990 he gained his doctorate with magna cum laude at a research institute affiliated to the Technical College of Aachen.

At the beginning of 1993 he began working in the fields of product development and applied research at Beiersdorf AG.

The Consulting and Service Bureau Dr. Riedel e.K. (BSB) has existed in its current form since the summer of 1998. In 2000 the bureau was supplemented by a publishing house which is responsible for the publication of the "BSB-eACADEMY" on the Internet and “Black and White Label" on CD-ROM.

Dr. Riedel has been a member of the German Society of Scientific and Applied Cosmetics (DGK) since 1994.
