BSB Innovation Prize Awards 2004
On May 4
2004, the European Innovation Prize for cosmetics was awarded in the categories
„Education“ both German and international, as well as „most innovative raw
material concept“ by BSB.
The
Innovation Prize, a prize brought to life by BSB`s founder Dr. Jan-H. Riedel, is
supported by business and aims to promote the global dissemination of
up-to-date knowledge.
The award
winners in the three categories are
Dr. habil Reinhard Miller, Max Planck Institute Golm for his seminar:
Adsorption of Tensides at liquid borderline surfaces“ – the specialist
background knowledge required to understand emulsions, detergents and foams
(category: best German-language seminar),
Prof. Rainer Müller of the Freie Universität in Berlin for his innovative SLN concept on
encapsulation of sensitive raw materials (category: most innovative raw
material concept)
and
Dr. Gerhard Nohynek, L’Oreal, for his seminar „Benefit, Risk and Safety of Organic
Ultraviolet Filters“ (category: best international contribution), which
presents the latest insights into safety of sunprotection products.
The winners
were determined by two independent, international juries. On the jury for the
categories in education were Dr. Ulrike Heinrich representing the independent
research institutes, Ms Angelika Meiss (COSSMA) for the press, Dr. Andreas Domsch (Goldschmidt-Degussa), Hansueli Gonzenbach, Geneve and Dirk Sootjens (Dow
Corning Europe) for European industry.

The jury for
the category “most innovative raw material” comprised Robert Fischer representing the press (SöFW) and
Dr Gerhard Noyhnek (Lóreal), Dr Ralf Schimpf (Beiersdorf), Hans Steisslinger (Lever-Faberge) as well as Karl Raabe, the German representative from IFSCC.

Gerhard Noyhnek.
The
Publishing House Dr. Riedel nominated three candidates in each of the education
categories and BSB made 8 nominations for the raw material area. In the raw material area,
the following 7 raw materials were proposed, apart from the winning concept:
Cetiol CC
(Cognis), EUK-134 (Atrium), Jojobasome (Desert Whale), Luviset Clear (BASF), Plantapon
LGC (Cognis), Tinogard Q (Ciba Specialty Chemicals) and Unisurrection
(Induchem).
After the
opening of the event by the organizer of the innovation award, Dr. Jan-H.
Riedel, at the Schreieggs Post in Thannhausen, Prof. Hartwig Höcker, Akademie der Wissenschaften, held
a talk on: „The Climate of Innovation in Germany“.
